In Case You Missed It

UPDATE: Wallet Found! Phew!!!!
Ah, politics. I'm mentally worn down by the process. I'd much rather hear about policy. Even so, this post is a mixed bag.
From TPM regarding tax policy:
But here's what's really interesting. Obama's proposals would raise his own taxes by hundreds of thousands of dollars, in order to cut the taxes of people who are less fortunate than he is. McCain would cut his own taxes even further than they've already been reduced. And that's everything a voter needs to know about these two men. From Jill at Brilliant at Breakfast regarding Democrats who will sit out, vote McCain or third party:
I look at the comments sections on blogs and I see not just women, but supporters of other candidates, considering voting for Ralph Nader, or staying home, because they feel it just doesn't matter anymore. But isn't this exactly what got us into trouble in 2000? This notion that there was no difference between George W. Bush and Al Gore? Can anyone really say that we would be exactly where we were now if Al Gore had been president?(Read the whole piece before you make a judgment on it.)
Out of the mouths of Vice Presidential nominees (h/t TMP):
Biden: "Your kitchen table is like mine, you sit there at night after you put the kids to bed and you talk about what you need. That's not a worry John McCain has to worry about. He'll have to figure out which of the seven kitchen tables to sit at."And finally, from Maureen Dowd , yes you read that right (this may be a first) on noun, verb, POW:
The Kerry Swift-boat attacks in 2004 struck down the off-limits signs that were traditionally on a candidate’s military service. Many Democrats are willing to repay the favor, and Republicans clearly no longer see war medals as sacrosanct.
In a radio interview last week, Representative Terry Everett, an Alabama Republican, let loose with a barrage at the Democrat John Murtha, a decorated Vietnam War veteran who is the head of the House defense appropriations subcommittee, calling him “cut-and-run John Murtha” and an “idiot.”
“And don’t talk to me about him being an ex-marine,” Everett said. “Lord, that was 40 years ago. A lot of stuff can happen in 40 years.”
Hey, Everett may not speak for the entire Republican Party, but since he put it out there, and since the Party's practice has been pretty much been an example of his words, well, it's hard for the McCain campaign to squeal like a stuck pig if someone "doesn't honor" his POWishness, isn't it?
And finally, this from Logan Murphy at Crooks & Liars. It's a message for Joe Scarborough. Now that we’ve learned from the LA Times that John McCain ditched reporters and dragged a 9 car motorcade to Starbucks to snag a large cappuccino on Friday, I think it’s time for Joe to let it go. Hell, McCain was probably wearing his $500 Italian loafers at the time (I bet he has more than one pair) and probably had a hard time deciding which home to return to.And just exactly why am I up doing a dreaded political piece at 3am? Because right before I went to bed last night, I realized that my wallet (including our checkbook) was missing. At 2:53 a.m., I awoke to fret some more about it and decided I may as well blog..........It’s time to give it up, Joe. I think we all know who the real latte-sipping elitist is now.
Now back to bed to irritate MathMan as I toss and turn.

14 Erect Nipples:
I have so little time for blogging and reading today but this post solves that... I now know where to go and what to get.
Thank you!
(9 car motorcade to Starbucks? I loathe that man, truly I do.)
I am stealing your graphic. It totally fits something I have up.
I think the difference between Obama and McCain is the also the fundamental difference between progressives and conservatives: progressives recognize we're all in this together, we sink or swim as a community. Progressives are willing to give up something if it benefits the greater good. Conservatives believe it's everyone for themselves, screw the community, greed is good, and, as Leona Helmsley famously, taxes are what the little people pay.
Fran - Glad to be of service! (Grrrr to McCain. Just grrrrrr.)
Nan - Steal away. That was one of my earliest creations so I feel especially flattered that you want to use it!
You are absolutely right about the difference between progressives and conservatives. I am so tired of the "you're on your own" mentality in this country.
Well? Did you find it? Don't leave us hanging like a bad movie ending.
Oh, and politics sucks like, um, let's see, John McCain.
Ha! I win!
I'm with Randal - don't leave us hanging regarding the wallet mystery.
I share your nausea about the whole politics vs policy issue - lots of the MSM coverage is laughable, we get more about such pertinent issues like "who has the firmer handshake" then we do about actual policy and related decisions that actually impact people's lives.
Hope you've found it by now. There's nothing much worse than waking up at 3am with a realworld problem. That's something McCain has arranged not to experience to the degree anybody with a limited lifespan can manage. That's what I don't understand about these people.
Glad you found your wallet.
These points you bring up are excellent of course. The MSM won't underscore them so keep it up! I am too weary to write much about politics anymore but I am voting and it will be for the Democrat as usual.
Thanks for the summing it up form far flung sites. I would like someone to flush Morning Joe down the toilet. What the hell is he doing on MSNBC? He should be on Faux.
Did you or didn't your find the wallet?
Great summary, and so glad you found your wallet! There's nothing worse than thinking you lost your wallet. I did it recently (turned out it fell out in the car due to my unfortunate habit of leaving my purse unzipped) and I was in a panic!
Yes, we need for Democrats to vote for Democrats this November, just to get started in another direction. Biden is a winning VP selection. He makes McMuffin look like the super idiot he is.
I really don't see many people considering third-party candidates. Here in solidly red state America, I don't see a lot of enthusiasm for McCain, but I'm pretty sure most traditionally Republican voters are going to pull the lever for McCain anyway.
I was one of the people who was totally dissatisfied with Gore in 2000 and voted for Nader, but I'll never do that again unless the Democrats nominate someone as uninspiring as Al Gore, circa 2000.
I read the Brilliant at Breakfast posting, and it misses the point for people who are considering voting for McKinney or Nader. Ever since 1992, liberals and progressives have been stuck with a choice between the lesser of two evils.
If someone is going to argue that we have to vote for a ticket with a corrupt, warmonger like Biden on it, it is that person's responsibility to propose a strategy to make sure that the Clintons, the Gores, the Kerrys, and the Bidens of the world are never on a Democratic ticket again.
There are a lot of us who are swing voters between the Democrats and liberal to progressive candidates. If we continue to be taken for granted or actively pushed away from the party, the Democrats will lose election after election.
I still can't get over the FISA debacle, so I am going to stop voting for the lesser of two evils. that said, I'm in NYC, not a swing state--might feel differently if I were. And congrats on finding your wallet.
First off, I couldn't get past the part where if we don't vote for the Big O, we are losers, trators and Gawd knows what the hell else.
Second...if Gore had carried his OWN STATE, we wouldn't be having this discussion...ok?
Please don't fall into the trap of blaming people for voting their conscience..please DCup. That is what voting is all about...not voting for the lesser of two evils..or any of that other horseshit I bought into for years.
I vote all right...for the person or feline I feel is most qualified for the job. ;p
