POWnding it into the ground

In case McCain's declared intentions to carry on the Bush policies isn't enough to make you want to see this man trounced in November, maybe it's time to explore a bit more of the POW aspect of McCain's assumed qualifications to be president.
Want to know a little bit more about John McCain, the POW? One of his fellow captives has written an interesting piece for Alternet. In summary:
Senator John Sidney McCain, III is a remarkable man who has made enormous personal achievements. And he is a man that I am proud to call a fellow POW who "Returned With Honor." That's our POW motto. But since many of you keep asking what I think of him, I've decided to write it out. In short, I think John Sidney McCain, III is a good man, but not someone I will vote for in the upcoming election to be our President of the United States.Read the whole piece, though. It's a lesson in how the McCain Myth makes other POWs feel. In July, I worked with a public speaker who was another POW camp survivor who had been a cell or two away from McCain in the Hanoi Hilton. He didn't say anything bad about McCain, but he didn't make an endorsement either. Now that I've read this Alternet piece, it makes me wonder if that gentleman shares these same feelings. He's on the list of McCain supporters, but still I wonder - is he resenting the shameful way McCain and his campaign are using the POW label to address everything?

12 Erect Nipples:
Ooooh, that was a great article.
McCain's fellow POW made the same points I've always thought were detriments to him being commander in chief.
He's old, he's in chronic pain and he's nuts. 'Nuff said.
I still think more former military/POWs will vote for Johnny than against even though he IS old, in chronic pain and nuts.
POW, POW, POw, you'd think that's all he'e ever done is get captured by the enemy and then marry a rich white chick when he got out. Oh wait, that is all he's done.
A good read. Thanks for the link.
I'm inclined to agree, he is using the POW thing almost in the same way that Guiliani kept saying "9/11" at every stump speech about a year ago. The tread's wearing thin quickly.
Very interesting read, thanks for posting this. I agree, I think this POW emphasis could backfire and may bring more POWs out of the woodwork who feel the same way.
Who knew that getting shot down and captured would be lucky more than thirty years later.
While Duke Cunningham didn't get shot down and but was disgraced as he deserved.
I am just saying...
And is it really likely that many Clinton supporters will vote for him because they are in a snit about Obama getting the nod? I wouldn't vote Liberal if the Labour leader were (insert name of someone incredibly evil) so I find that mind boggling.
too bad that article won't get any MSM coverage.
I haven't read your link yet, but I will when I'm done here.
I've been wondering for a while about his experiences. Most people, after going through a harrowing ordeal, emerge from it changed somehow.
But he came back and returned to being a spoiled playboy who values style over substance. What does that say about him?
Ha! Great link. I think that McCain should spend more time with Jane Fonda and Barbara Streisand.
If I were a POW like McFossil, I'd kick your ass.
