Dear Sarah Palin: I'll respect your daughter's privacy when you respect my privacy
Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy, as has always been the tradition of children of candidates," the Palin family statement concluded. The campaign is providing no more details about the father, including his last name and age.
Palin was refusing to speak to the press about it today.
"We're asking the media to respect a person's privacy," said Maria Comella, Palin's campaign spokesman.
I'm not sure we've seen the last of the Palin pregnancy story. Some of you want to take the high road. Even MathMan teased me about muckraking. That's okay. I think I've always been pretty good about sticking to the issues. I make no secret of my partisan background and my liberal beliefs. I typically try to present how the issues apply to real life.
So pardon me if I think this is a big deal. But for me, this is a big deal. Yes, it's personal. This is every bible thumping, panty-sniffing hypocrite who ever called me slut when they were out getting knocked up at 16 while I managed to fuck my way through high school and still didn't get knocked up until college. At which point I did exercise my right to choose (I chose to terminate) because I was not in a position to have or raise a child.
This is personal because women like me are scorned by women like Sarah Palin and her holier than thou approach to public policy. This is personal because I'm willing to support Bristol Palin's right to choose, but Sarah Palin would never support my daughter's right to choose, so yeah - this is personal.
And it's speculative. And it's questioning what we're being told because you know what? Something still doesn't seem right. Do you really need me to go over all the times we've been told to shut up and sit down and we did and now we wished we hadn't?
The Iraq War? The appointments of Alito and Roberts to the Supreme Court? No Child Left Behind? The investigation into Dubya's national guard service? The swiftboating of John Kerry? I'm sure you can fill in many more.
We can sit down and shut up and watch another election go to the Republicans. It's lovely to stand on the high road and watch our nation crumble, isn't it?
I'd almost decided to drop this story until I read this from Gryphen. I followed the links and I clicked on the pictures to see the comments. At first I was confused. Who was the young woman holding the baby in those pictures? Then I clicked on the picture labeled my big brother and best friend. There he is - Levi. Identified by name.
So the mystery deepens. In those pictures with the newborn, Sarah Palin looks fantastic. When I had Cupcake, she came out like those dream births in the birthing videos. MathMan likes to joke how I didn't even muss my lipstick. But I can tell you this, that picture of Palin in the shorts and the hoodie? Wow. Enviable. I mean her legs don't look the slightest bit swollen. But who am I to say? I'm not a medical professional.
Which brings me to my last point - this could easily be laid to rest by the Palins. Of course it's insulting to be asked to prove that Trig is the son of Sarah and Todd, but for the sake of the campaign, I would think they would be trotting out that evidence immediately to shut me and my low-roader pals the hell up.
They want this story to go away? They have to power to make it happen.
UPDATE - Okay, the link to the myspace page is now private. I have the screen shots saved. If you want to see them, you can email me at dcup84 at gmail dot com.

38 Erect Nipples:
You go, girl.
1. Muckraking is necessary -- always.
2. It's never the "crime," it's always the cover-up.
3. Hypocrisy sucks.
it is time to play by the rules of Rush, Dobson, Coulter and Rove --- they use them and blame the other side
we have been toads -- too bad Sarah Palin --- you made this bed, now sleep in it
i just feel bad for bristol -- she is an unwilling participant -- and was totally used by her mother
how sad
ER sent me a link to this, and so I read it. My take is exactly the opposite, for a variety of reasons. I do not think this is anyone's business but the Palins. Period.
I do not think it has relevance to any public position Gov. Palin may take. Period.
I think that, especially since Bristol Palin is still technically a minor, she should be off-limits. Period.
And, in reference to distributor cap - you want to emulate those scumbags? Sorry, but I don't play that way. They are vile. I realize that if you wrestle pigs, you're bound to get some shit on you. That's why you don't wrestle pigs. It's that simple.
I offer these views with all dues respect, because, DCup, I happen to read your blog fairly regularly, and while I do not comment (normally), I felt compelled to on this issue. I like you blog and respect your views. They just differ from mine. That's all.
D-Cup, I agree with you.
In fact, I posted something very similar on my blog before I came here.
I think Sarah Palin needs to provide proof that she gave birth to Trig so millions of Americans don't continue to believe that she hid the truth because having a teen daughter get pregnant twice in one year would be too politically disastrous to have to admit.
Until they release Trig's birth certificate signed by an actual physician, there will always be doubt.
I think she's a liar.
I need proof that she's not.
Your headline says it. The legal rationale for Roe v. Wade is the implied right to privacy afforded by the Constitution. Palin wants to insert her ethics and values into the lives of all Americans by advocating all abortions be illegal.
This issue is about the right to live your life in your own way. The people that McCain - Palin represent want to dig deep into our lives and underwear not to because they are interested or care about our situations but because they want to control us, control our opinions and what we do. It is how they believe they can capture and maintain power. Taking away our rights is the next step, since they already have made many us afraid.
Yeah, Mathman. They want their privacy respected yet they want to delve into our lives without a scintilla of justification.
Turnabout's a bitch, innit?
Sure is, Karen Zipdrive!
Hey all you guys here is my screenshot of the MySpace page before it came down, I guess Dcup has one as well. Disseminate far and wide (right-click download) just in case the feds come & get us!!!
Travelingman on Gryphen's site got me all paranoid...
Sadies' Myspace Page with Sarah Palin & Trig
cant and wont argue any of the hypocrisy points because you are right. If wonderful niece were in this position gov palin would not allow her a choice in the matter.
i just feel bad for bristol that she has now become an embodiment of her mothers policies
"They want this story to go away? They have to power to make it happen."
You are right as rain, DCup. If you hold yourself up as an arbiter of others' lives, you should not be offended when, in the process of being introduced to the American people as the possible (dare I say 'probable', Grampaw?) President of the United States, questions are raised about the bizarre family circumstances in which you are enmeshed - at the same time as you are claiming to be in a place where you can tell other families how they must live.
I don't know about you other ladies who have had 3 or more kids, but I for one took a while to show with my first baby, but I looked way pregnant approximately 17 minutes after I got pregnant the 2nd and 3rd times. Even with my smallest baby who was 6 and-a-half pounds. None of this 'not visibly pregnant at 7 months stuff.
I'm just saying. Just my own experience.
Update - Gryphen has reposted the myspace post.
Thanks for posting. The hypocrisy is Palins and the coverup is the focus, not Bristols normal behaviour
i just love how it is never anyone's business when the rethugs' kids are those who are being examined. exactly which rethug was chastising john mccain when he was making fun of chelsea clinton?
sarah palin chose to enter the public spotlight and bring scrutiny to her children knowing that her daughter was knocked up. if she is going to parade her kids on the stage in an attempt to portray herself as the great american mother, then we have every right to discuss how accurate that depiction is. if she is going to make speeches about teaching only abstinence in school, then we have every right to see whether that stand is effective.
sarah palin, according to legend, got on a plane when in labor with a high-risk baby. you don't have to be a doctor to know that premature babies have special needs, even if not affected by downs syndrome. bypassing hospitals in texas and alaska that were more capable of dealing with a high-risk baby, sarah palin put her own child at risk. she apparently thinks her career is more important than her children.
let me add that i raised my son pretty much on my own. i had no choice but to work, because it was either i worked or we starved. i don't think there is anything wrong with a woman having children and pursuing a career. however, when it is a choice between career and the life of your child, especially when one is purportedly so pro-life that a rape victim should be sentenced to carrying the baby of the piece of shit who raped her, then a woman of character would choose her child every time.
another way of looking at this is--if sister sarah and her family are so proud of sweet little bristol, then why aren't they parading her in front of everyone? there isn't anything to be ashamed of, right?
Dearest DCup...
I am in agreement with you on this. If it weren't fot the hipocracy of it all, I might feel differently. If it weren't for the plane trip, I would have many more doubts. But last Friday, when I heard Rachel Maddow talk about the plane trip after the water break, I just couldn't buy it. I know if I were with my wife, and she wanted to give a speech after beginning to leak aminotic fluid, I would raise hell and get her ass to the hospital.
What DCap said!!! Time to take the gloves off damn it.
Curiouser and curiouser.
I pretty much agree with many of the common 'taters here. If the baby Trig is or isn't Sarah Palin's, I'm sure that the doctor who delivered the baby would sign off on whatever they wanted. She appears to be in their pockets.
It's the story about going back to Alaska with a high risk pregnancy and leaking amniotic fluid that simply doesn't add up.
Incidentally, although this may fall into the category of TMI -- amniotic fluid can leak and then the cervix seals up again. It happened to me.
But still -- it was deemed a high risk pregnancy. That means high risk for the baby too. So it doesn't matter how many births the mama went through; there was no way of knowing how the baby was doing until she got to medical facilities.
Thank youDCup! Great post.
Well said. If the Sarah Palins of the world would agree to keep their fucking noses out of other peoples' business, then she could expect the same. That said, I do feel sorry for the daughter. All this attention has to suck.
Has it occurred to anyone that Sarah was stomping around on icy hills in high heel boots, drinking coffee, running till her guts hurt, leaking fluid and risking the pregnancy by flying because she was hoping for a sin-free miscarriage?
hey karen, that is exactly what occured to me. I also want to bring up that even in a "regular" pregnancy you have to get special permission from your doctor to fly after 7 months. How did Sarah get down to Texas in the first place?
I stopped by here on Friday, wondering if you had anything to say about Palin. There was nothing. I concluded that you were seething with anger over the selection.
This is personal because women like me are scorned by women like Sarah Palin and her holier than thou approach to public policy. This is personal because I'm willing to support Bristol Palin's right to choose, but Sarah Palin would never support my daughter's right to choose, so yeah - this is personal.
I completely agree. Hypocrisy is intolerable. The people that believe it's ok to spy on law abiding citizens are not allowed to have their own privacy spared.
i COULDN'T have said it better myself. in fact, your "Dear Sarah Palin" line might be my new favorite.
DCup wrote:

For me, this nails the issue right on the head.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
pissed in NY said what I was thinking.
I have tried to stay away from this but now it has become so curious that it's unavoidable. So many things just don't jive. I'll be happy to stay out of her business, if she will swear to stay out of mine and all other women.
While I agree with you that the hypocrisy of the far right is deplorable, I feel strongly that we need to be better than that. Just my own experience tells me that when I get into the muck and play dirty, even if I win, I lose. I lose some of my humanity.
The issues around Sarah Palin are enormous - enough on their own to sink the McCain candidacy. I think it is important to focus on her anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro-oil, anti-environment, and stance on teaching creationism in schools positions more than anything.
I love your blog, and I feel your anger - but I am more in line with what Geoffrey Kruse-Safford said.
I have to disagree.
Playing nice and keeping our hands clean is how we got stuck with a clown like Bush for the last 8 years.
These fucking liars are inspired by Karl Rove and they have no reservations when it comes to fighting dirty.
I really don't mind getting down in the mud with them. I have a shower and soap, I can clean up after they lose the fight.
THEY THERW US A BONE BECAUSE THEY WANTED US TO DROP IT for a reason, and I think the reason is there is a lot more being hidden.
You go ahead and take the high road, but that's not where you'll find these slimeballs.
The curriculum we had in school didn't tout abstaining from sex, it just didn't talk about it at all. Or if sex was mentioned, it was reduced to a mere biological function.
And that to me is the most irresponsible thing that can be done. I hope we take this opportunity to reinforce the fact that birth control and sex education are needed desperately.
Angry, angry, angry...
When the Republicans abstain from having kids until after marriage and don't act like you, you're ANGRY!
When they act just like you and have a kid out of wedlock, you're ANGRY. (Well to be fair, Bristol Palin would have had to abort the child and/or go on welfare to be a liberal, but we won't split hairs.)
When a scandal boils up around a child of one of your candidates, you ANGRILY demand that the Republicans leave it alone, because children are off-limits...unless it's a Republican's child. There's no way your ANGER is going to let you do what you've always asked everyone else to do and respect the privacy of the family.
And that's why I can't be a Democrat. All those double standards are way too hard to try to keep straight.
Have a nice day! :-D
As Konagod says:
trollmeat, its what's for dinner! Notice he has liberal and welfare in the same sentence...but Bristol Palin won't have to worry about going on welfare, her mommy and daddy can afford to take care of them..
John McCain voted to NOT fund teen pregnancy programs...how nice of him..NOT!
God forbid he address the hypocrisy of the reichwingers..
Bristol is having the baby, right?
I guess I missed the hypocrisy here....now, if she were murdering an innocent child, uh I mean terminating a pregnancy, then ...
I guess she will have to be "punished with a child".
This is a difference between Conservatives and Liberals. Conservatives bite the bullet and live on, Liberals kill the baby. If it happens to survive the abortion, it should be ok to kill it, per Obama.
ME - At first I considered deleting you, but instead I chosen (related to that word CHOICE) to leave up your comment so that your words can speak for you.
First - you call me angry? Okay - oh, wait, that's right. Liberals aren't allowed to be angry. We're supposed to be nice. Right. How come it's righteous for the right to be passionate about something but scary angry when it's a liberal.
Second - This is MY blog and I represent MY thoughts. Go read through all my archives, ME. You won't find one place where I've roughed anyone up because they chose to stay celibate. Not once. Again, I'm such a consistent supporter of choice, you know?
Third - When they act just like you and have a kid out of wedlock, you're ANGRY. (Well to be fair, Bristol Palin would have had to abort the child and/or go on welfare to be a liberal, but we won't split hairs.) I never once said that Bristol keeping her baby made me angry. In fact, I state that I support her right to have that baby and, frankly, I would defend her right to have it. As for "acting like me," I'll have you know that none of my children were born out of wedlock. Not a single one. And yes, I exercised my right to an abortion a long time ago. If ever you find yourself pregnant (a true miracle) I promise not to force you to keep or terminate it. Promise.
Oh and that 'go on welfare' crack. Um, okay. But where I come from and where I live, plenty of welfare recipients, if they vote at all or think in terms of political ideology, consider themselves conservatives.
When a scandal boils up around a child of one of your candidates, you ANGRILY demand that the Republicans leave it alone, because children are off-limits...unless it's a Republican's child. There's no way your ANGER is going to let you do what you've always asked everyone else to do and respect the privacy of the family.
Again, there you go with some gross generalities. I've never once blogged that family is off limits. Not my schtick. And even here, I'm still questioning the mother's policies, not the daugther's actions.
And that's why I can't be a Democrat. All those double standards are way too hard to try to keep straight.
Well, that's a shame. I had you pegged for a really bright person, capable of keeping up. You might be selling yourself short, you know. And unless you make over $250k/yr, you might consider how awful Republican policies are for your checkbook, not to mention all the other reasons you might consider voting in your own best interests. And I promise - no Democrat would be so stupid as to take away your guns. Or you bibles. Plenty of Dems I know, own both.
Have a nice day! :-D Well, now that's a nice touch. Come on my blog, make some general statements meant to put me in my place and then wish me a nice day. Well, okay, ME. Thank you, you too.
Okay, Dale, try to keep up. I'm blogging about Gov. Palin's hypocrisy. She asks that we support and respect her family's decision and privacy and yet she would not extend that same courtesy to other families.
here....now, if she were murdering an innocent child, uh I mean terminating a pregnancy, then ...I guess she will have to be "punished with a child".
Oh, good one. That me me laugh a little. I realize that you're taking a swipe at Obama. Nice. But really - haven't you met kids that you think are punishment? No? Well then, send me your address. I have a carload of them I can loan you for perspective.
I jest, but you're off base here. First - an abortion is not murdering a child. I suspect you and I are going to have to disagree on that one. Anyway - let's see what other intelligent things you've written...
This is a difference between Conservatives and Liberals. Conservatives bite the bullet and live on, Liberals kill the baby. If it happens to survive the abortion, it should be ok to kill it, per Obama.
Well, here's the thing. Some conservatives that I know would, as you put it,"bite the bullet" and have their babies and "live on." So would some liberals. But just as many of each side would exercise their legal right to terminate for any number of reasons. And you know what? That's called CHOICE. I have consistently supported it and always will. Wanna know why? Because I feel that a woman's body is hers and sometimes there are reasons for terminations that are NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. And I like it that way. Forcing women to have babies serves what purpose, exactly?
That's a rhetorical question - which means I'm not really seeking your answer.
Finally - Sarah Palin doesn't support the use of contraception. As such, she is adding to the bullet biting and "punishment." Guess how you can keep pregnancies from being terminated? Not letting them happen in the first place!
So, thanks for stopping by and making your very narrow views known. It's been fun.
D-Cup, courtesy is wasted on boorish clods. A blog is not a democracy, nor is it a public forum where crackpots are allowed free access regardless of their comportment or their thinly veiled agendas.
Some people have no home training.
They come where they are not wanted and stay long past their welcome.
I can't imagine invading a right-wing blog and lecturing people. It's ridiculous.
karen, you could never lecture right wingers unless you could figure out a way to do it that employed only monosyllabic words.
And grunts just don't convey on the interwebs!
Fraud. Insurance fraud. This is the real story, folks! NOT the supposed “current” Bristol Palin pregnancy. Did Sarah Palin as Governor of Alaska create a fake pregnancy of her own to obtain lifetime medical benefits for the disabled son of her unwed daughter, who otherwise was not covered for those benefits? There is plenty of indirect but convincing evidence that she did just that, and that is the story that McCain and his minions are trying to suppress. By claiming that daughter Bristol is now pregnant, it obfuscates further research into the possibility of a real crime that may have been committed by Sarah Palin. Don’t be fooled by this morphing of the story. Did Palin commit insurance fraud - that’s the question. Period.
Pablo... Interesting twist. Very interesting. I was wondering if the Palins were trying to avoid a statutory rape brouhaha, but the age of consent is 16 in Alaska.
We can't have universal coverage through a single payer system, but we, well not "we", only a few chosen from the elite refuckyoucan "they" can defraud the system to make up for its suckishness.
Well thank you. I AM a bright person. Bright enough that I don't try to "keep up". I prefer to set my own pace, although I've noticed that it's usually far out in front of the pack.
Now as to your hypothesis that republican policies are bad for me... As a Conservative, I can't disagree. They still take and spend way too much of MY money and do things that restrict my rights. However, the Democrats have been far, far worse for decades. Let's be honest. They take MORE of my money and use much of it to buy the votes of the folks who refuse to work as hard as I do. Personally, I'll go with whoever taxes me the least, and I don't want federal services save for the military and the few basic federal tasks laid out in this country's constitution.
Referencing your final point on guns however, many Democrats have in the past voted to take away my guns, restrict my access to new guns and ammunition, and/or voiced support for future legislation that would do these things. And some of these democrats are Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Barrack Obama. That's all public record and undeniable fact. Bill Clinton's administration hurt gun owners, which is one reason the Dems lost Congress in 1996, and President Clinton continued to hurt us via executive orders and more restrictive State Department and BATFE policies designed to slash the number and type of guns and ammunition that could be imported or manufactured, and the companies that could deal in them. I was in the industry back then and I know first-hand how bad the Democrats were. I'm not willing to go though that again so I'll do whatever I can do to stop the current ticket of avowed gun-haters (Obama/Biden). If the Dems ever want to come back to mainstream American values and support guns ownership ala Zell Miller, I'll be the first one to welcome them back and consider supporting them. And if they start cutting taxes and eliminating government programs too, I'll probably support them. I couldn't care less about their social policies so long as they stay clear of my money and my freedom.
Karen, last I checked, you can't "invade" a blog that's open to the public. Mine is, and I usually allow any postings that don't stoop so far as to use profanity or launch into personal attacks against me. It's a little thing I have called "tolerance" and you might want to look that word up sometime. But do feel free to drop by. There's a new pro-Palin post just waiting for some seething rage responses.
Pablo, you believe that the moon landings were faked too, don't you?
where I come from, we don't slander people by supposing and insinuating. We find evidence first and make sure that we can prove our charges against malfeasors. Of course if your only intent is to spread vicious unfounded (or patently false)rumors and hope that they circulate and cause harm, then you might want to take a few hours and contemplate your honor and your purpose in life.
Not a sermon...just a suggestion.
Have another nice day everyone. Gotta run. Mrs. Palin's about to speak and I want to hear what our next V.P. has to say. ;-)
Yo me...you self centered fuck.
Love your profile: I'm looking for Miss Right. She's a rich centerfold model who loves to do housework and who can maintain her part in an intellectual conversation.
Keep looking dude...there has to be a few women around that don't mind serving and supporting you. What.A.Fucking.Crock.
Hey DCup, I just stumbled upon your blog here... and I love it! From one dcup to another, you rock!
Here's my take on the whole Pablum, er, palin fiasco:
I don’ think that baby Trig, who Sarah is using for a POLITICAL PROP is the offspring of daughter Bristol. I think Bristol’s pregancy was just bad timing. Young girls don’t typically give birth to babies with Down Syndrome. By and large that is one of the dangers of an older mother pregnancy. BUT, I don’t think that Sarah gave birth to Trig, either. This leads me to a suspicion with a different twist on the entire charade and lie used by Sarah Palin in order to further her career.
As we’ve learned so far, Sarah Palin is so self-righteously anti-choice, that she doesn’t believe in giving another woman the right to make choices for her own life, even in the case of incest or rape (such Christian compassion! not!) The ultra fundamentalists who support this line of thinking have latched their teeth into a relatively new (within the past few years) marketing trend: Exploit babies with disabilities and birth defects (especially those with Down Syndrome - they’re the cutest) - Hold them up in the public spotlight, put their faces on billboards, and say, “Imagine if this child had been aborted… what a tragedy that would have been.” =guilt, guilt, guilt.
Now, back up to the Last Frontier…
Last Spring it was already clear that McCain was the GOP pick. Sarah threw her hat into the ring of potential contenders for the VP, even though logically she should have had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the nod. She decides to grab herself some more attention and pull her own publicity stunt. With her contacts in the anti-choice network, she finds a “crisis pregnancy center” or some such front that encourages, and coerces women into going full term with a pregnancy regardless of a woman’s circumstances. Palin finds a woman who is 7 months pregnant with a Downs Syndrome baby who has been convinced to go full term. Sarah and the Dude pay the Mystery Mother off to hand over the baby at birth, no adoption papers, no questions asked. So, it’s not surprising that Sarah didn’t tell anyone, not her parents, and not even her children that she was pregnant, because she WASN’T. The conversation with “the Dr.” on the phone while Sarah was in Tx wasn’t about Sarah’s water breaking, it was about the Mystery Mother’s water breaking. Sarah was in no rush to get back to Wasilla because she wasn’t HAVING a baby that day, she was BUYING/GETTING a baby that day. Now all she has to do is pay off the Dr. to fake the parent’s names on a birth certificate and, voila! Sarah Palin gets all kinds of accolades for making the Choice to carry this disabled child to term! Now she can hold this baby up as a sacrafice to the GOP machine and say look, “I’m a real good republican who can walk the talk! Here’s my baby to prove how anti-choice I really am! Pick me, pick me!” And so they did.
… stranger things have happened.
