Where I Write an Open Letter with Not One Ounce of Snark

Dear Citi, Barclays, Capitol One, WaMu, etc....
Thank you for those lovely, unsubtle reminders that you're still awaiting my payment. I regret that the payment has not already been sent, but I appreciate your apology in advance.
Considering the never-ending increase in the cost of living and stagnant salaries, I'm sure you'll understand that our paychecks are no longer stretching as far as they did a couple of years ago. Therefore, I trust that you'll understand that while I have every intention of paying back my debt and yours (via taxes), I just don't see it happening. Silly things like the mortgage, utilities, car payments, fuel and food are taking up so much of our salaries that we're forced to make some hard choices. We're choosing food, shelter and transportation.
After the week Wall Street has had, I'm sure you'll understand that we only expect the same kind of wisdom on your part that our government had when it came to helping out those financial institutions. In fact, we won't ask for a bailout or further loans. No, we'll show some restraint. We'll simply ask that you forgive our current debt. Certainly, the generosity you've received from the American people via our government will trickle down to us, right?
Of course, there's the issue of those persnickety bankruptcy laws, the cost of lawyers' fees, etc. But hey, let's just consider this a crisis of CRISIS proportions and move quickly, shall we? Just like we did with love notes back in elementary school, I'm going to make this easy for you. (Please see below.)
With all good wishes,
DCup
Will you forgive the debt of DCup and family? Please circle one. Yes /

Christ on a crutch, socialism for the rich, I'll just bet my 401k has dissolved yet again, while the fat cats (apology to my cat) continue to laugh at us the GODS of the free market, Norquist, the head of the FED reserve, and all those folk on Wall St. I hope they enjoy MINIMUN WAGE jobs and Unemployment........
fuckers

You tell them. Sen. Dodd used the best line yesterday; this is another example of "privatization of wealth and socialization of debt". So why shouldn't the latter go both ways?
How dare you expect the same treatment as those who gave the political parties millions of dollars? When you give till it hurts during campaign season then you'll get taken care of and not a moment sooner.
Socialism for me, not for thee.
I'm sure we'll be seeing that on a tie at Brooks Brothers anytime soon.
Did you know the Treasury Dept has invited the IMF for a stability assessment? We've been welcomed to the Third World where free market extremism and nationalization of private companies has been the hallmarks of membership for countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Brazil and others.
Why aren't they polling people for their opinions?
Excellent!
Cross-posted at my place.
Have a good weekend, DCup and family
I need a copy of that letter. I have yet to fall behind on my bills, but it is about to happen if I do not find employment and/or a winning lotto ticket soon.
We are not afforded the spoils of the rich and the corporate.
Aye Sister, Makes perfect sense to me.
You know, we could have cut out the middle man and they could have just made things easier in the firstpalce, given us a few healthcare and sustainable energy options and we wouldn't even have to go through this. I say let them fail, but that is far easier for me, having no money in the bank. Sad, but true.
You should send that letter to them over and over an over and over and over and over and over again.
Mercy Street runs one-way, it seems. If only we could figure out how to make the health care system bottom out so that the government could socialize that.
dcup,
i want to wish you the best of luck. i would write more, but i have to find a way to make soup out of credit cards. i'll send you the recipe if i ever figure it out.
When I worked at the RTC (a lifetime ago) there was a saying that was often repeated: owe the bank $1,000, that's your problem. Owe the bank $1,000,000, that's the bank's problem.
Obviously, we all need to borrow much more.
The debt is sickening and you should not have to pay it, none of us should. They're getting bailed out, why aren't we? Our cost of living continues to rise. People can barely afford to go to work because of gas prices and have to ask themselves if they should put food on the table this week or buy a tank of gas.
Fuck em'. Fuck em' up the ass with a spicy chopstick!
Your commenters are both brilliant and ruthless--"Fuck em up the ass with a spicy chopstick!" Katie, your my kind of gal.
Taking care of my mother in the last five years of her dementia ruined me economically and I had to file for bankruptcy, and not a second too soon as the congress in it's wisdom made it impossible for us citizens to file bankruptcy. I think now you have to be a corporation to file. Those in power sure don't think much of us.
I say send that letter and send it over and over, like Freida said. At some point I think you should be able to file a lawsuit against them for harassment and infliction of emotional distress. Ask for several hundred million. Don't you have a slightly ethically challenged cousin or friend who's an attorney and has a great sense of irony? I think what we have here is a class action lawsuit of mythic proportions. I know about fifty people, right off the top of my head who are in exactly the same boat being hounded by banks that have so mismanaged their accounts as to become insolvent. Well welcome to the real world WaMu.
Sorry for the rant, but it's been brewing for a long long time. Oh please do not lose you righteous indignation.
Woot! I hope to hell you sent that..I really do. :)
Holy shit, do you know how awesome it would be if they just up and forgave my student loans... credit card debt.... furniture debt.... motorcycle loan... truck loan....
The useless plastic crap I would buy....
